2024, TERM 3 REFLECTION
Personal Growth & Self-Concept
My understanding of myself has undergone a profound transformation during my time in school. Initially, I defined myself primarily by my academic achievements, but over the years, I’ve learned to appreciate my strengths beyond grades. Significant experiences, such as participating in group projects and engaging in real world learning, helped me develop resilience and empathy. These moments showed me the importance of collaboration and the value of diverse perspectives. As I’ve progressed, my values have shifted from purely academic excellence to a more holistic view that emphasises personal well-being, community, and lifelong learning.
Project Work and Exhibitions
Among my major projects, I am most proud of my final exhibition, where I explored the intersection of Graphic design and Real Estate. The feedback I received from the survey wasn't entirely as anticipated, however; the criticism was constructive which not only refined my work but also encouraged me to adopt a more iterative approach in future projects. I faced challenges such as time management and balancing multiple responsibilities, but I overcame these by prioritising tasks and seeking support from peers. This experience taught me the importance of adaptability and perseverance.
External Learning Experiences
My internships have significantly influenced my understanding of my future career. Shadowing professionals in various fields exposed me to real-world applications of my studies, solidifying my desire to pursue a career in Real Estate. The most valuable lessons I learned outside the classroom included the importance of networking and the impact of effective communication. These experiences shaped my aspirations by helping me clarify my career goals and encouraging me to pursue opportunities that align with my passions.
Service Work and Social Action
My involvement in the Clean Up Australia Day organization, where I hosted a beach cleanup, had a significant impact on both me and the community. This project aimed to improve the local environment while fostering a sense of community spirit. Organizing the event not only deepened my appreciation for nature but also highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing environmental issues.
Through this experience, I developed a stronger sense of social responsibility and witnessed firsthand the positive effects of community engagement. I saw participants come together, motivated by a shared goal, and it reinforced my belief in the power of grassroots initiatives. Moving forward, I see service work as an essential part of my life, whether through organized events or personal commitments to sustainability and community welfare.
Final Exhibition Preparation
Preparing for my final exhibition involved several key steps: thorough planning, regular practice, and soliciting feedback from mentors. I encountered obstacles like technical difficulties and anxiety about public speaking. I addressed these by rehearsing extensively and breaking down tasks into manageable parts. Looking back, I wish I had sought feedback earlier in the process to refine my presentation.
Future Aspirations
Post-graduation, I hope to pursue a career in design, focusing on user experience and accessibility. I envision applying the skills I’ve gained in creativity, critical thinking, and project management to contribute to meaningful projects. I have fears about entering the workforce and whether I will find a role that aligns with my values, but I plan to address these by remaining open to new opportunities and continuously seeking mentorship.
Acquired Skills and Learner Capabilities
Throughout my school years, I’ve developed skills in creative problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability. I believe these will be crucial as I navigate future challenges. My capabilities as a learner have evolved to include a greater emphasis on self-directed learning, which will benefit me moving forward. I still hope to further develop my technical skills in design software and deepen my understanding of user-centered design principles.
Conclusion and Acknowledgments
Overall, my experience at school has been transformative, filled with learning and growth. The most valuable lessons include the importance of resilience, the power of collaboration, and the impact of community engagement. I want to acknowledge my teachers, who provided unwavering support and guidance, and my peers, who inspired me with their creativity and determination. Their contributions have been instrumental in my success and development.
